Portland School Board Members Unanimously Endorse Pious Ali for City Council

In an overwhelming show of support, every member of the Portland School Board today endorsed Pious Ali for At Large City Council. The endorsements highlight Ali’s strength as a champion of public schools as he seeks election to the City Council.

“I am grateful to have worked on many issues with my colleagues on the School Board, and I’m moved by their support today,” Ali said.

While the School Board by policy does not issue official endorsements as a body, the individual officials showered Ali with praise:

• “Pious is an extraordinary leader. He has formed meaningful relationships with all Portlanders and has worked hard to understand the needs of individuals and families in our city. He has been an effective and instrumental voice on the School Board. I am confident he will continue to work hard for Portland on the City Council.” – Stephanie Hatzenbuehler

• “Pious’s strength as a community leader is his ability to create dialogue and engage community members from all corners of life in Portland. He builds consensus because he has earned the trust of the community.” – John Eder

• “Pious is inspirational to young people and is a thoughtful colleague on the Board of Education.” – Holly Seeliger

• “Pious has been a true advocate for student and community voice in his service to the school board over the last three years. I know he will carry that same responsibility to constituents with him to the City Council. I am proud to support his candidacy.” – Anna Trevorrow

Board Chair Marnie Marrione and school board members Sarah J. Thompson, Jenna Vendil, and Laurie Davis joined their colleagues in endorsing Ali.
